Bob Jones Homeschool Curriculum Review...
Is it For You?

<<>>
Bob Jones homeschool curriculum is a comprehensive Biblical based K-12 homeschool solution.

I started using the distance learning DVDs about 7 years ago when I only taught four children. At that time, I had all elementary children.

Now with eight children to homeschool (K-12th grade), I use many of Bob Jones K-5, elementary, 7th and 8th grade, and high school curriculum.

Three Distance Learning Options
From Bob Jones Homeschool Curriculum

  • DVD- Leasing the DVD lets you have all the classes for the year to use. They can be watched on a DVD player or computer. The program comes as a grade package: kindergarten through sixth grade and seventh through twelfth grade or by individual grade levels.

  • Hard drive - Leasing the hard drive gives you the complete grade. It's as easy as plugging it in to your USB port on your computer. The BJU hard drive program is available for kindergarten through eighth grade.

  • Distance learning Online - Through Internet streaming, classes are taught and online assessments are given. A discount is given for two or more grade kits. Classes are offered for K-12.

For the parent who wants to actively teach the material, Bob Jones has complete textbooks offered for Preschool through grade 12.

Our family has used a lot of the Bob Jones curriculum the last four years. I highly recommend their material. But with any curriculum, there are pros and cons.

Pros of Bob Jones Homeschool

  • Very organized, comprehensive, colorful textbooks.

  • Biblically based.

  • Distance learning is professionally produced directly for the individual student.

  • Kindergarten is loved by all...even my older ones like to watch when they are done with school.

  • Critical thinking is taught early on.

  • Visuals are used extensively.

  • Elementary English combines the grammar and composition.

  • Learning to write well is taught starting as early as 1st grade.

  • Love all the songs that are created to teach concepts such as noun, phonics, parts of speech, etc.

  • Cost of the Distance learning is actually a lot cheaper than most Christian Schools.

Cons of Bob Jones Homeschool

  • The K-5 phonics is not as strong as I would like; sight words are taught with the phonics.

  • Elementary math teaches the concepts about a year behind Abeka, but by 7th grade, it catches up to other curriculum.

  • Because many of the DVDs were copied from Bob Jones Univerity homeschool link program, many of the high school classes have a lot of lag time.

  • Distance learning can be very expensive, especially if you have multiple children.

  • 7-12th grade grammar is weak on diagramming.
