What are the Homeschooling Pros and Cons?
Have you weighed the benefits and advantages of homeschooling?
There are many factors that can affect the decision to homeschool and each pros and cons of homeschooling should be weighed carefully.
"Are you going to homeschooI?"
This was a question asked of me many times at my church when we first moved to the area.
"No way"! I said.
How could I with 4 under 6 and being 7 months pregnant with number 5?
Slowly, my heart and mind changed to the idea that I COULD educate my children at home and still be successful!
It was not until 5 years later that I started homeschooling.
Now after homeschooling these many years, I have come up with a chart I hope will be helpful.
|Provides individualized attention and instruction||Parents do not have the luxury of having time to themselves|
|Develop bonds with children; both biblical and sound||Responsible for the social development of their children|
|Incorporates biblical values along side of the academic instruction||Feeling inadequate to teach children|
|Allows for more flexibility for special needs children||Parents responsible for the outcome child's education|
|Create a weekly schedule that fits the family||Lack of personal Space|
|Finish school earlier/no long nights of homework||Staying on top of household chores|
|Know what children learn and when they learn it||Committing many hours to instructing child|
|Nurture teens through the more difficult years||Can be costly|
|More opportunity to socialize with those of varying age levels||Researching subject material, curriculum, and assessments is up to parents|
|Better insulated from negative influences||Teaching multiple children can be difficult|
|Homeschoolers exceed the minimum standards||Staying on top of record keeping and grading|
|No one telling you what to do.||No one telling you what to do.|
